About Skydive Sussex
# Skydive Sussex Description
Located at Sussex Airport in Sussex, New Jersey—just 39 miles northwest of New York City and 5 miles from the nearest hotel—Skydive Sussex offers convenient access to skydiving for the Northeast's largest metropolitan area. Open seven days a week, the dropzone welcomes everyone from first-time tandem jumpers to experienced skydivers pursuing advanced certifications.
Skydive Sussex operates two aircraft: a Cessna 208 Supervan and a Cessna 208A Caravan, providing reliable service for both introductory and progressive training jumps. The facility is part of the Eastern Region and serves as a USPA-affiliated member and international affiliate drop zone.
For newcomers, tandem skydiving is the flagship experience. Tandem jumps exit at altitudes up to 14,500 feet with up to one minute of freefall before deploying the parachute for a 5–7 minute descent under canopy. The dropzone offers optional media packages so jumpers can capture their experience. Check-in involves paperwork and a safety briefing, with jumpers meeting their instructor about 20 minutes before boarding.
Skydive Sussex is home to the Advanced Freefall Program (AFF), an accredited USPA training curriculum designed for students pursuing their solo skydiving license. The AFF program is structured to teach progressive skydiving techniques throughout a comprehensive course outline, allowing students to complete their license and jump independently in as few as ten jumps. This program equips jumpers not just with parachute skills but with the fundamental techniques required to earn a full skydiving license.
The facility provides extensive amenities supporting both casual jumpers and serious enthusiasts: a designated camping area, equipment rentals and sales, a full-service restaurant, load organizing services, packing facilities, rigging services, shower facilities, videography services, and Wi-Fi. These accommodations make extended visits and training camps accessible and comfortable.
From NYC, directions are straightforward: take I-80 West to Route 23 North, then follow CR 659 for 34 miles before turning left onto the airport property. The dropzone's proximity to one of America's most densely populated regions, combined with its professional facilities and structured training programs, positions Skydive Sussex as a primary gateway for both casual thrill-seekers and dedicated skydivers in the Northeast.
